School is out and there is finally time to have some fun with the with the whole family. But what to do? Here are a few ideas of things to do and places to go in Gainesville to make this summer one to remember!
Visit the Cade Museum
Check out the brand new Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention. The museum opened its doors on May 19 and is located in downtown Gainesville’s Depot Park.
Go to a U-pick farm
U-pick farms are the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon while getting a healthy snack that you can eat when you get home! Berry farms will begin opening up their doors during the summer months.
Go to an outdoor market
The Union Street Farmer’s market in downtown Gainesville is open every Wednesday and there are all kinds of vendors who participate. Plus, the market is outside, so it is pet friendly, too!
Go to the beach
What summer would be complete without a trip to the beach? Pack your SPF, some fruit you got from the U-pick farm and you’re good to go!
Attend a concert
On Fridays at Bo Diddley Plaza they put on Free Fridays as a part of the Downtown Cultural Series where local bands perform for free. Check out their website to see who is performing each week!
Make s’mores
If you prefer staying at home to have some family fun, pick up the ingredients for s’mores and make them for a fun after dinner treat!
Watch fireworks on the 4th of July
A tradition that never gets old! Whether you are stocking up on sparklers or finding somewhere that has an entire fireworks show set up, it is a summer necessity.
Ginnie Springs
Going in the pool is great, but going tubing down the Santa Fe River is better! They also offer kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding if you prefer a more fast-paced activity.
Go to the movies
Nothing compares to seeing new movies in the theaters. Our recommendation is the long-awaited “Incredibles 2,” which comes out June 15!
Have a picnic in the backyard
If you want a laid back afternoon or evening, grab a blanket and have a picnic in the backyard. Spend some time making delicious Pinterest-inspired treats and sit outside with the whole family for a nice midday snack.
