Your kiddos might not want to sit in front of the TV screen for four hours watching Super Bowl LVI like your partner does, but you can give them something to keep them busy: food. These three recipes are easy, delicious and dependable plays for even the pickiest of eaters.
Pizza Melts
Ingredients:
2 cans Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
¼ cup pizza sauce
2 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 package slice pepperoni (regular or turkey)
1 egg
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 tablespoons shredded Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup pizza sauce for dipping (optional)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°F. Unroll one can crescent rolls onto a greased cookie sheet. Press into a large rectangle, smoothing any perforated gaps. Spread ¼ cup pizza sauce on top of dough evenly, leaving about ¼ inch of space on the edges. Sprinkle mozzarella and pepperoni on top. Unroll second can crescent rolls, smoothing any gaps and forming another rectangle of the same size. Place on top of the pepperoni. It might be easiest to spread the dough on parchment paper first, then placing it on top with dough side down and peeling the paper off. Beat egg and brush on top of dough. Sprinkle Parmesan, oregano and garlic powder on top. Bake 13 to 15 minutes until golden brown. Cut into squares (about 16), then cut squares diagonally into triangular pieces. Serve with leftover pizza sauce for dipping, if desired.
Salsa Cream Cheese Dip
Ingredients:
1 block cream cheese, softened (8 ounces)
1 jar preferred salsa
3 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1 bag preferred tortilla chips
Chopped green onion to garnish (optional)
Directions:
Spread cream cheese evenly into bottom of glass baking dish (pie dish preferred). Pour jar of salsa on top, covering cream cheese in an even layer. Tip: if your little ones have textural issues or don’t like spicy foods, choose a mild, less chunky salsa. Sprinkle cheese on top. Add green onions if desired. Bake at 350°F or microwave until cheese is melted and golden.
Worms in Dirt
Ingredients:
2 cups milk of choice
1 package instant chocolate pudding
1 container whipped topping
1 package Oreos, crushed
1 bag gummy worms
Plastic cups
Directions:
Blend milk with pudding mix until combined well. Add whipped topping as you blend until it reaches an even chocolate color. Distribute a third of cookie crumbs among 10 cups, letting them sit in an even layer at the bottoms. Distribute half of pudding mixture among cups. Repeat with another layer of cookie crumbs, the rest of the pudding, and a final layer of cookie crumbs. Add desired number of gummy worms to each cup to get the “worms in dirt” look. Store in refrigerator until serving.
