Updated May 20: The Alachua County Commission decided to reverse the decision to end thy county-wide face mask ordinance. This decision was made after the county commission and the city of Gainesville commission came together for a virtual meeting yesterday, May 19, at 3 p.m.
This decision was made after many Gainesville city commissioners expressed their concern with the ending of the ordinance. Now, Alachua County is back under the ordinance to require face masks while in public places in Alachua County.
Updated May 19: Today in an Alachua County Commission Special Meeting, the commission decided to end the ordinance that required the use of face masks while in public spaces in Alachua County. The decision passed with a 3 to 2 vote.
Please note that this ordinance has been revoked in Alachua County, but not specifically in the city of Gainesville. The face mask ordinance was originally put in place at the beginning of May in response to Phase One of reopening Florida.
